Day 26

Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor — Oregon Coast

Location Hook

I just wrapped up my stint on the Oregon Coast with an epic early morning photo session. Full moon reflecting off the water, the cliffs, and the sea stacks at 4 AM. It was magical!

Seems fitting to complete this part of the Ocean to Ice journey with a wrap on Nephi’s vision which covered chapters 11-14.

What I’m Learning

So, I wanted to stop for a moment and look back. This is what Nephi’s vision taught me.

It spanned four chapters and covered some big themes.

  1. The life of Christ.

  2. The destiny of nations.

  3. The scattering and gathering of Israel.

  4. The Restoration.

  5. The end of the world.

But strangely, after spending several days with these chapters, the lessons I’ve taken from them feel remarkably personal.

1 Nephi 11 (Part 1)

Revelation is not spectacle. It’s attentiveness.

The angel repeatedly says:

“Look.”

“Look.”

“Look.”

The lesson may be less about extraordinary visions and more about learning how to truly see.

1 Nephi 11 (Part 2)

God responds to sincere seekers far more than most people realize.

Nephi didn’t receive answers because he was special.

He received answers because he genuinely wanted to know and was willing to seek.

1 Nephi 12

After mystical moments come ordinary ones. And what we repeatedly choose during those ordinary moments determines everything.

Civilizations rise and fall one daily decision at a time.

1 Nephi 13

A partial map isn’t usually the problem. The problem is believing it’s the entire map. That’s when we stop looking, stop questioning, and start heading confidently in the wrong direction.

1 Nephi 14

You don’t have to carry the whole story. God gives different witnesses different pieces.

Our responsibility isn’t to see everything. It’s to faithfully share what we’ve been shown.

Taken together, the progression feels surprisingly clear:

Learn to see.

Trust that God responds.

Live faithfully after the experience.

Accept that your map will never be complete. Move with humility. Ask questions. Keep seeking.

Then share what you've learned along the way.

Honestly, that sounds less like a vision and more like an adventure trail guide.

Trail Line

Don't mistake the view for the whole landscape. Keep looking. There's always more to see.

Adventure Scripture

"I know that he loveth his children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things."
